CA Foundation exam is a building block for all the candidates who want to become a CA. CA Foundation exams are conducted twice a year, in May and November. CA Foundation, earlier known as Common Proficiency Test (CPT), is an entry-level exam for CA courses. It consists of 4 papers, 100 marks each.

  • Paper 1: Principles and Practice of Accounting

  • Paper 2: Business Laws and Business Correspondence & Reporting

  • Paper 3: Business Mathematics & Logical Reasoning & Statistics

  • Paper 4: Business Economics and Business & Commercial Knowledge

Paper 1 and Paper 2 are descriptive papers with a time duration of 3 hours each, and Paper 3 and Paper 4 are objective papers with a time duration of 2 hours each.

  •  To pass every level of CA examination, there are two mandatory conditions:

 a. Scoring a minimum of 40% marks in each paper.

b. The total aggregate of all papers should be a minimum of 50% of the marks.

  •  There is no such condition to pass individual subjects in a paper. For Example: In paper-2, a candidate only needs to pass completely in Paper. He/she needs not pass in Law and BCR separately. Both the subjects together make a single paper.

As CA Foundation, earlier known as CPT, is considered one of the toughest and highly regarded exams, a CA aspirant's hard work & dedication is rewarded with good results.

In the initial months, many students do not start with the preparation thinking to only study at the end moment and score good marks. There is nothing wrong is starting with the preparation in the last 3 months. However, the time period of 3 months is considered limited. In such a case, one has to complete the syllabus, solve RTPs, MTPs, past examinations and leave appropriate time revision. The result of the CA Foundation is the result of the hard work done in the last 90 days.

STRATEGIES TO CLEAR CA FOUNDATION IN LAST 3 MONTHS

1. Time-table

The first and foremost task before starting with the preparation is to make a timetable and follow the same. According to your weakness and strength in the subjects, allocate time to all the subjects. If you are a class 12thstudent then you can easily understand Accountancy as there is a similarity between the class 12th Accountancy syllabus and CA Foundation Paper-1 (Accountancy). In case your mathematics is weak, you can allot more time towards mathematics and understand it better.

2. Focus

Focus plays a very important role in the life of an individual. It is the main force behind success, and not only it gives one good marks rather focus brings discipline in life. Therefore, staying focused is very important. On the other hand, a person gets easily distracted with the slightest movement. Therefore, it is advisable to study in a noise-free environment for better results and focus.

3. Motivation

Motivation is the underlying factor for good results. A motivated person’s presentation of work stands out in contrast to an unmotivated person’s presentation. Motivation leads to greater heights and confidence in an individual.

4. Solve Revision Test Papers (RTPs)

The RTPs prove to be of great help, and they help in understanding the paper pattern and the latest questions framework. Sometimes students are well prepared for the examination. Still, they cannot answer the question at the time of the examination due to a lack of practice and negligence to solve RTPs.

TOPPER’s STRATEGIES

1. Mastery at calculating: A CA student should know calculator tricks. It will save time and will allow attempting more questions. Calculator lies at the heart of the CA course as calculations need to be solved within less time.

2. Speed and Accuracy: A CA aspirant should focus on increasing the speed of answering questions. Along with the increase in speed, accuracy is also equally important. Accuracy is what leads to higher marks. Speed & accuracy can only be attained by solving various questions, having a stronghold of the course.

3. Understand Concept: Concept clearance is one of the most important aspects for scoring good marks. Although Paper-3 and Paper-4 being objective papers, it is required to understand the concepts clearly to answer the Multiple choice questions (MCQ).

4. Presentation of the paper: The professional exams require you to present your answer sheets neatly and understandably. CA Foundation has 2 subjective papers and 2 objective papers. Subjective papers need to be presented well, and cutting should be avoided. Instead, make proper working notes, do rough work on rough sheets, and use a pencil to make tables/ accounts. As there is stepwise marking, the paper should be presented in an orderly to score good marks.
